The Crash Ensemble celebrates its tenth year in operation this year. In the run up to Shindig, their celebratory mega-event in October, there was a storm of publicity, including feature articles and pieces in places where new music is absolutely never normally seen or heard: the Sunday Independent, the Sunday Tribune and RTÉ Radio 1 (Morning Ireland!). Crash’s marketing department played a blinder, with sometimes strange results – the general incomprehension of the possibility of living art music in such forums is something none of us can erase in a single campaign.
