JMI Blog and Podcast
In addition to an archive of over 750 articles dating to 2000 and an online gig guide and traditional music session listing, the JMI website is now home to a new blog and podcast. The blog, updated regularly by JMI staff, covers contemporary issues and events. Tradition:DL
The 2nd Tradition:DL, Dún Laoghaire Festival of Traditional Music, takes place on 1–3 August, featuring three nights of concerts at the Pavilion Theatre plus sessions. Musicians this year include fiddle-player Paddy Glackin, duo Spiers and Boden from England, singers Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and Julie Fowlis, and harpist Michelle Mulcahy. Tradition:DL will also see the Dublin premiere of The Frost is All Over, a new show by Tony MacMahon (accordion), David Power (uilleann pipes), Dermot Bolger (poetry) and John Comiskey (imagery, direction). lyric fm Composer in Residence
Antrim composer Elaine Agnew has been named the first RTÉ lyric fm Composer in Residence. The composer will be writing at least three new works during her tenure, including a new orchestral work to celebrate RTÉ lyric fm’s tenth birthday. Visit www.lyricfm.ie
Anna Livia Opera
The Anna Livia Dublin International Opera Festival will take place 7–14 September at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, presenting two grand operas, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Saint-Saëns’ Samson & Dalila. The director/designers are Roberto Oswald and Anibal Lapiz from Argentina and the conductors are Franz-Paul Decker and Derek Glesson with the Anna Livia Festival Orchestra. Sligo Jazz
The Sligo International Jazz Summer School takes place on 5–10 August. Tutors includes Paul Wertico, Steven Davis, Todd Coolman, Mike Nielsen, Bill Carrothers, Reggie Washington, Paul Williamson and Ulf Wakenius.

Scoil na gCláirseach is a summer school of early Irish harp taking place in Kilkenny on 20–26 August. Tutors include Andrew Lawrence-King, Siobhán Armstrong, Ann Heymann, Seán Donnely, Keith Sanger and Simon Chadwick. Strings of Gold, a concert series, will follow the summer school. Philip Glass in Ireland
Philip Glass will perform with his Ensemble as part of the Galway Arts Festival at St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on 15 July, and in Dundalk on 17 July.
